Proof of funds for a study permit: what looks inconsistent at first glance?

I keep seeing the same worry: the money is there, but the story around the money feels messy. Not messy as in suspicious, just hard to explain without writing a mini biography. This thread is for comparing what people consider a clean, easy-to-review proof of funds package for a Canada study permit.

When you look at bank statements and funding sources, what do you check first?
1) If there is a large deposit, what level of explanation is reasonable without creating new questions?
2) How do you keep tuition payments, GIC (if used), and living funds consistent on one timeline?
3) If parents are supporting, what documents actually help show availability and source of funds?
4) What are the most common contradictions you have seen (dates, account names, exchange rates, etc.)?

If you reply, it helps to share your program start date, school type (college/university), and whether funds are in your name or a sponsor’s. Please do not post account numbers, full statements, or personal IDs.

Good framing. A simple way I’ve seen people keep this clean is to build a one-page funds timeline: where the money was 3–6 months ago, what moved, and what it’s intended to cover (tuition vs living). The more the dates and names line up, the less you need to explain in words. If anyone is sharing examples, please keep it high-level (account types and dates) and don’t post statements or IDs.

One specific contradiction I’d love to hear about is currency conversion. When tuition is paid in CAD but the funds are held in another currency, what screenshots or bank pages do people include (if any) so the officer can follow the math without pages of clutter?
