Will My Parents Get In the 2026 PGP Lottery?
It’s been two years since we submitted our parent sponsorship application. We’ve met all the income requirements, filed clean taxes, and even got the letter confirming our application was received. But every time the PGP lottery results come out, my stomach drops. I know it’s not a guarantee, but the wait feels heavier than the paperwork.
The reality is, there are way more families wanting to bring parents than spots available. Our household income has stayed stable, and we’ve kept every document organized—birth certificates, marriage certificates, proof of relationship, and more. Still, the uncertainty lingers. I’ve even looked into the Super Visa as a backup, but it’s not the same as having them live here permanently.
Here are a few things I’m still trying to figure out:
1. How long after the lottery do we usually hear back if we’re selected?
2. Does having multiple family members in the same application increase our chances?
3. If we’re not selected this year, should we reapply immediately, or wait for the next round?
4. Are there any regional differences in selection rates, like between Ontario and Atlantic Canada?
I know no one can predict the outcome, but I’d love to hear from others who’ve been through this. What province are you applying from? How long have you been waiting? Did you apply in 2024, 2025, or are you planning for 2026?
If you’re in the same boat—hoping, waiting, and trying not to lose hope—please share your timeline and province. No need to post your UCI, passport numbers, or bank details. Just your experience and where you stand. We’re all in this together.

Be careful—many assume parents can apply under the PGP, but only certain categories like skilled workers or graduates qualify. If they’re applying as parents or grandparents, they’d need to explore the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP), which has a separate lottery and much stricter rules, including a point system and high application fees.
Also, past draws show selection rates are low—often under 10%. If they’ve applied before, their score from previous applications might not carry over.
Could you share: 1) Which province they’re in, 2) Their current immigration status, and 3) When they last applied (or if this is their first try)? That’ll help clarify the path. Please don’t post any personal ID numbers or documents.
