Got PR Portal Photo Rejected? What Now?

Just got the PR confirmation email and breathed a sigh of relief—only to get hit with a photo rejection in the portal. Turns out the 150x180 pixel requirement isn’t just a suggestion. My photo was rejected for a tiny shadow on the forehead. I re-uploaded with a plain white wall, same lighting, same clothes… still no luck.

Then I realized my Canadian address in the portal was one digit off in the postal code. Not even a typo—just a wrong digit from a previous form. It seemed minor, but the system flagged it. Now I’m stuck waiting for a manual review.

I know the portal is the last step before getting my PR card, but it feels like a maze. I’ve saved every confirmation, double-checked the specs, and even used the IRCC photo tool. Still, the delay is stressing me out—especially since I’m planning a trip back to Canada soon.

If your PR portal photo was rejected, first check the specific reason in your portal message—common issues include lighting (too dark or harsh shadows), background (not plain white or off-white), or facial expression (too serious or not fully facing the camera). Make sure your photo is recent (within the last 6 months), and that you’re wearing your usual everyday clothing—no hats, sunglasses, or head coverings unless for religious reasons.

Also, double-check the file format and size: it must be a clear JPEG, under 10MB, and properly cropped so your face takes up about 70–80% of the image. Avoid using filters or editing that alters facial features.

The biggest pitfall? Trying to fix the photo with apps that over-smooth or enhance features—IRCC can flag those as non-compliant. Stick to a simple, natural-looking image.

To help narrow down the fix, could you share:
1) Your province of residence,
2) Your current immigration status (e.g., visitor, student, worker),
3) How long you’ve had the photo ready?
