IRCC Processing Times Update: Super Visas from Pakistan Jump 77 Days in One Week
IRCC updated temporary residence processing times on July 7, and the data shows increases across nearly every category. If you are planning to apply for a work permit, study permit, visitor visa, or super visa soon, here is what the latest numbers tell you.
Work permits saw mixed results. In-Canada applicants got a slight improvement: processing time dropped from 129 to 127 days. Philippines-based applicants also saw a full week reduction, falling from 8 to 7 weeks. But Pakistan went from 5 to 6 weeks, and Nigeria recorded the sharpest increase of all — jumping from 8 to 11 weeks, a full three-week spike that breaks the declining trend seen since June 24.
Study permit processing times remained completely unchanged across all countries, holding steady at the same levels as last week. Canada is at 7 weeks, India and Nigeria at 5 weeks, Pakistan at 6 weeks, the United States at 5 weeks, and the Philippines at 4 weeks.
Visitor visas saw modest improvements for most countries — gains of just one to four days. Canada dropped from 38 to 36 days, India from 21 to 20 days, Pakistan from 38 to 34 days, and the United States from 32 to 29 days. The Philippines held steady at 17 days. Nigeria was the only country to see an increase, rising from 56 to 59 days.
The super visa category delivered the most dramatic headline: Pakistan's processing time surged by 77 days in a single week, from 102 to 179 days. That is roughly two and a half months of additional wait time in just seven days. Other countries saw much smaller increases — India went from 50 to 52 days, Nigeria from 32 to 33, and the Philippines from 52 to 57 days. The United States held at 123 days.
IRCC's service standards remain unchanged since the 2018-2019 period: six weeks for work permits outside Canada, 14 days for visitor visas outside Canada, and 112 days for super visas. In practice, actual processing times consistently exceed these benchmarks by a wide margin.
The key takeaway is that temporary residence wait times are trending upward again after a period of modest declines. If you have family members in Pakistan or Nigeria applying for Canadian visas, expect longer waits than usual.
