What’s the real timeline for submitting my PGWP after graduation? What proof do I need?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been going through the final stretch of my program and, like a lot of us, I’m now stuck waiting for my official completion letter and final transcript. I know the rules say I need to apply for my PGWP “after I complete my studies,” but I’m starting to worry—how much of a gap is safe between finishing my program and actually submitting my application?

I’ve read the IRCC guidelines, and it says I need to apply within 180 days of completion, but I’m not sure what counts as “completion.” Is it the date on my final transcript? The date on the completion letter from my school? Or the day I actually finish my last class? And what if my school takes a few extra weeks to issue the official documents?

I’ve also heard some people say they started working right after their last class—even if they hadn’t gotten the official letter yet—just to stay busy. But I know that’s risky if you’re not officially eligible. So, what’s the safest way to time this?

Here’s what I’ve been checking so far:
- Making sure I have a clear record of my completion date (like my course schedule or final exam date)
- Requesting my completion letter and final transcript as soon as possible
- Confirming with my school how long they typically take to issue these documents
- Keeping all emails and records of communication with the school

But I’m still unsure—what matters most to IRCC when they review the application? Is a letter from the school with a completion date enough, or do they really need the official transcript? And if I apply just a week after getting the transcript, but my official completion date is earlier, will that cause issues?

Would love to hear from others who’ve been through this. What was the first thing you checked or kept on hand when applying? And what details did you make sure were clear and documented?

Let’s share what you’d prioritize—what proof you’d double-check, and what timing details you wouldn’t risk missing.
